The Mohammed VI Bridge is the longest cable-stayed bridge in Africa. Honoring the King of Morocco, the structure connects the capital city of Rabat to the city of Salé. The iconic landmark was part of a larger infrastructure project—the Rabat Motorway bypass—that was commissioned to help alleviate traffic in and generate economic benefits for the two cities, as well as reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. The Mohammed VI Bridge was named after — and by — the current king of Morocco during an inauguration ceremony for the grand opening of the bridge on Thursday, July 7, 2016 after five years of the construction of it was completed by the China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group for approximately $32.45 million in United States dollars. Mohammed VI Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Marocco. The construction of the bridge started in 2011, and the bridge was opened in 2016. The bridge is part of the 41.5 motorway around Rabat.
